Modern Materials Handling magazine's September issue covered the story of how Oriental Trading Company (a major Direct-To-Consumer retailer) got its warehouse under control and achieved:
- Inreased Productivity by 45%
- Reduced Picking Erros by 60%
- Achieved 99.9% Order Accuracy Levels
The keystone behind this project was the Warehouse Control System, providing communication and intelligence throughout all functions of material flow and amongst the different components of the material handling systems.
The expectation of the presentation was to show through "Gap Analysis" voids left between the Warehouse Management System and warehouse operations or automated equipment (such as conveyor systems) are best filled by the more economical Warehouse Control Systems. Traditionally the WMS would require costly customization. By utilizing a Warehouse Control System, the WMS has greater stability and a lower "Cost of Ownership". All while giving the distribution center the capability to develop new processes and add warehouse automation as needed. That is the "Power of the WCS".
